IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARC - A POEM

12th February 2008

The following poem was written by Trevor Rowe in memory of Marc Unkovich and generously shared with us by his mother Marie Unkovich.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF MARC

9 Oct 1977 to 20 July 2007

Marc - as a boy, was a bundle of joy

An exuberant lifestyle he led,

Full of life, and youthful power

He lived life - at a hundred miles an hour

Until that terrible sickness touched his head.

But life is for living, for understanding, and forgiving

Governed always, by the state of our mind

Some live in full measure of happiness and pleasure

But to some - life is downright unkind.

Many good things Marc did, as a fearless young kid

He was active, he was bright, he was kind,

Just an ordinary boy, full of life, full of joy

Till that illness, that awful illness,
Took control of his mind.

Little things we remember, like "The Arab"

It's many forms, facial hair, and goatee rat tails,

Marc's typical quirk, his response with a smirk

"That's something - reserved for the females".

Some rejoice in the glory of a rainbow

Some rejoice in sunshine and rain,

Never dreaming - waiting there, is a cross we must bear

A cross of loss, and everlasting pain.

For life comes to us all in many different ways

Even in death, we sometimes find release,

Always sorry, we know, to see a loved one go

But in our heart, we know they're at peace.

To us, Marc seemed fine, sometimes life was divine

But round about age twenty seven,

Marc knew, without doubt, and his heart, cried out

"Please god, won't you take me to heaven".

Looking back at life now, we remember somehow

Approaching thirty, no words can relate,

Only Marc really knew, what and when, he must do

When life was a juggle with fate.

Only memories remain, that return once again.

And for ever and ever it will be,

His smiling face I will see, as he murmers to me,

I'm free, I'm free, I'm free.
